Good afternoon World,

I wanted to start this week’s blog with a correction about myself….I am NOT a simple girl.  I am woman, hear me roar!  Seriously often women and myself do ourselves a disservice by downplaying our role in the business world.  Today is the day I squash any social constructs that I am a simple girl.  I have had a great life, great career, some crazy mixed up times and some straight up hardcore nose to the grindstone times.  At the end of the day, I am so proud to be a part of Lab360 and of these seedlings here at Lab360.  So many cool products, and interesting people, I never imagined this would be my life, but hence, as the illustrious TuPac said “Reality is wrong. Dreams are for real.”

With that I introduce our Portfolio Company of the week, Ario.  Ario is more than just a smart lamp, Ario is the world’s first lamp that is good for your health.  This dynamic lamp automatically adjusts light color and direction to support your body’s circadian rhythm. Now I don’t know about you, but it sounds good, it is pretty and would like nice in my home, but what is this circadian rhythm and how is that healthy for me?  Old school dictionary definition says:  “Circadian rhythms are physical, mental and behavioral changes that follow a roughly 24-hour cycle, responding primarily to light and darkness in an organism's environment. They are found in most living things, including animals, plants and many tiny microbes”.  Long story short, this lamp has a learning component that has intelligence to learn your sleep and wake habits, adjust the light to that schedule and help you get healthier sleep and in turn keep you healthy.  Onward and upward, who is Ario and how did they get started on this path to health and happiness!

Ario consists of four team members, Dale Dell'Ario (get it, Ario?), Brian Hoskins, Bing Chen and Julie Shryne and is based out of both the Bay Area and Seattle.  The idea of the Ario Lamp was concocted in the “Depths of Dale’s Basement”.  Dale and Brian have been neighbors for 11 years.  Six years ago, Dale built this lamp for Brian as a thank you, and from that the deeper concept and prototype was born.  Two years ago, the guys decided to form the company and see where this thing could go, and alas another star is born.  Dale Dell’Ario, a Stanford Master’s Graduate, has been developing technology products for over 40 years.  He is the creator, the inventor, the mad scientists so to speak.  Brian Hoskins, Harvard MBA, 15 years’ experience in Product Management, nine of those with Microsoft and launched Slingkast as a startup.  He is the biz dev, the leader, pen and pencil guy.  Bing Chen, also a co-founder of Ario, is the Electrical Engineer de jour.  What to say about Bing, he is one of the knock-your-socks-off millennials, super driven and with his experience on the CERN Project in Switzerland and the Large Hadron Collider Project in France (I have no idea what these are, but they sound really important), has helped position Ario to be successful.  Last we have Julie Shryne, if you shop at Safeway and know O, Organics you have an idea about Julie.  She has a great appreciation for wellness and is the Marketer addition to this team.  Julie is not only committed to wellness but she is also damn smart, MBA, MS from Stanford University in Design, Engineering and Psychology.  Top that!
SO folks that is the team, that is the product.  What the future holds, I am guessing great things, Ario is concentrating on the consumer space right now.  They are launching a Kickstarter campaign on November 3rd
